Phil says “The talk covers the convoluted history of the Wirral Colliery (to the North of Marshlands Road) through a number of eras, namely the “Anglican Smelting, Reduction and Coal Company Ltd.”, the “Neston Colliery”, the “Wirral Colliery” and finally “Wirral Colliery (1915)”.  It also covers the housing on the North side of Marshlands Road: the Colliery was involved in that after closure. It uses a wide variety of sources, from mining maps, period photographs, an oil painting, RAF aerial photographs & conveyances of local houses.”

The walk is along the Wirral Way to Boathouse Lane, and back along the edge of the Dee estuary. Neston Fairtrade Group will serve light refreshments at The Old Baths. The walk ends back at the URC Hall, where home-made soup and bread rolls will be served. The walk is mostly level, and about three miles. A shorter walk of about two miles is also offered.

Christian Aid sponsored walk started in 1972 before the official opening of the Wirral Way in 1973.
